Book Scene: Readings and Bookcrossing

Plenty of bookish things for bookish people this week. Radio, readings galore and the tantalizing appearance of Bookcrossing.

Canada Reads starts today. You'll remember the selections from our post in December. I'm pulling for A Complicated Kindness, but Three Day Road is pretty intense and features the often unheard native voices of Canada.

For events, Wednesday in particular is busy, you have so many options -

More April poetry - Margaret Christakos reads at the DRAFT Series, at the Artists Play Studio Theatre (209 Carlaw) at7:30pm.

Or you could swing by the ROM at 6:30pm for World Literacy of Canada's Kama Reading Series. Authors featured: Catherine Gildiner, Leon Rooke, and Helen Humphreys.

Of course, if you're more of a Queen West kind of bookish type, you could head to the Gladstone from 7-10pm for This is Not a Reading Series - they're launching Joyland by Emily Schultz and Apostrophe from Darren Wershler-Henry and Bill Kennedy.

Wednesday doesn't work for you?

Thurday, the Toronto Women's Bookstore hosts a book launch for Dionne Brand's Inventory at Innis Hall (2 Sussex ave). 7pm. Tix are 5$ (22$ if you want to buy the book, too). Remember to stick around for the reception (93 Harbord).

Friday to Sunday (21-23) the Bookcrossing convention convenes in Toronto. Quoi? - Bookcrossers will be leaving books strewn about the city ('wild books') and committing random acts of literacy, which just sounds so nerdy and awesome.

So keep an eye out. You might just join the biggest bookclub ever. No Oprah required.
